Het Merengebied ligt zowel in Chili als in Argentinië. Heuvelachtig landschap met bossen, talloze diepblauwe meren en vulkaantoppen bedekt met sneeuw en dan weer kale rotsgebieden. Het landschap tijdens deze autoreis verandert voortdurend omdat je een paar keer de Andes oversteekt. Hoe verder je naar het oosten gaat, hoe droger en ruiger het landschap wordt.
